Ceramic capacitors are known to comprise alternating layers of inner electrodes and ceramic dielectrics. A laminated ceramic capacitor includes a laminate formed of a plurality of laminated dielectric ceramic layers and an internal electrode laminated therein. Monolithic ceramic capacitors have a rectangular shape, and are provided with external electrodes at the opposite ends thereof, respectively. The development of integrated circuits has made it possible to place many circuit elements in a single semiconductor chip. A multilayer ceramic capacitor has been used widely as a compact, high power, and highly reliable electronic part and employed in a large number of electronic circuits. The multilayer ceramic capacitor comprises a layered dielectric body composed by alternately laminating dielectric layers and inner electrode layers and terminal electrodes formed on the main body of the layered dielectric element. The ceramic layers are stacked together in a manner that the internal electrodes are alternately exposed at opposite sides of the laminated body. The external electrodes are disposed at the end portions including the opposite sides of the laminated body and are connected to respective sets of internal electrodes of the laminated body.

A bridge rectifier makes use of four diodes in a bridge arrangement to achieve full-wave rectification.

The surge arrester is shown in Figure 7. It is built-up of 6 separate mechanical and electrical modules connected in series. The design of each module includes an HTV silicone rubber insulator moulded directly onto the internal structure with the  ZnO block column. The internal cage-style mechanical structure provides high mechanical strength and well controlled short-circuit capability in the event of arrester overloading.

The special location of the  arrester in the tower has required extensive 3D electrical field calculations to determine necessary grading rings to control the voltage distribution along the  arrester. The mass of the  arrester including the grading rings is 128 kg or approximately one third of the mass of an equivalent  arrester with porcelain housing. The creep age distance of 27 mm/kV corresponds to IEC class III.

Tantalum capacitors are under some conditions prone to self-destruction by thermal runaway. The capacitor typically consists of a sintered tantalum sponge acting as the anode, a manganese dioxide cathode, and a dielectric layer of tantalum pentoxide created on the tantalum sponge surface by anodizing. The tantalum oxide layer may have weak spots that undergo dielectric breakdown during a voltage spike. The tantalum then comes to direct contact with manganese dioxide and the leakage current causes a local heating; a chemical reaction then produces manganese(III) oxide and regenerates (self-heals) the tantalum oxide layer.

The Schottky diode or Schottky Barrier diode is an electronics component that is widely used for radio frequency (RF) applications as a mixer or detector diode.

The Schottky diode is also used in power applications as a rectifier, again because of its low forward voltage drop leading to lower levels of power loss compared to ordinary PN junction diodes.

Although normally called the Schottky diode these days, named after Schottky, it is also sometimes referred to as the surface barrier diode, hot carrier diode or even hot electron diode.
