A membrane potentiometer uses a conductive membrane that is deformed by a sliding element to contact a resistor voltage divider. Linearity can range from 0.5% to 5% depending on the material, design and manufacturing process. The repeat accuracy is typically between 0.1mm and 1.0mm with a theoretically infinite resolution. The service life of these types of potentiometers is typically 1 million to 20 million cycles depending on the materials used during manufacturing and the actuation method; contact and contactless (magnetic) methods are available. Many different material variations are available such as PET(foil), FR4, and Kapton. Membrane potentiometer manuafacturers offer linear, rotary, and application-specific variations. The linear versions can range from 9mm to 1000mm in length and the rotary versions range from 0° to 360°(multi-turn), with each having a height of 0.5mm. Rectifiers find a use in detection of amplitude modulated radio signals. The signal may be amplified before detection, but if un-amplified, a very low voltage drop diode must be used. When using a rectifier for demodulation the capacitor and load resistance must be carefully matched. Too low a capacitance will result in the high frequency carrier passing to the output and too high will result in the capacitor just charging and staying charged.

Diodes has announced the first device from a proprietary semiconductor process at its wafer fabrication facility in Oldham.

The device is a high efficiency 600V, 8A rectifier targeted at LCD-LED TV power supplies.

Called Diodestar, the process combines bipolar and mosfet semiconductor technologies in a high voltage process.

The first product fabbed on the new process is the DSR8V600, a 600V 8A rated rectifier, tailored for use as the boost diode in the power factor correction (PFC) circuits of single and dual stage switched mode power supplies (SMPS) up to 1,000W.

optimised for PFC duties in continuous and boundary conduction mode, this family of rectifiers will offer best in class soft recovery with ultra fast switching capability (TRR<30ns), meeting the requirements of the 80 Plus Energy Star standard for SMPS.
