Super capacitors, also known as electrochemical capacitors (electric double layer capacitors short as EDLC), gold capacitors, farad capacitors.
EDLC which can hold more than million times capacitance of regular capacitors is the future green energy storage device. Depending on the capacitance, EDLC is able to be variously applied. Less than 1F grade EDLC backs up the data and maintains RTC(Real Time Clock) built in the circuit as an auxiliary power system when a power supply of the application such as mobile phones, MP3 players, and Audio, VCR, etc is stopped. 10F ~ 100F and thousands of F grade EDLC are being used in large hybrid cars, UPS,EMU, copier requiring an instant high power, EDLC is also being gradually expanded to power unit like solar, wind, and environment-friendly renewable energy resources as an essential component.

Surge in Demand
When Covid-19 restrictions rolled out worldwide, stay-at-home mandates were the norm to prevent the transmission and spread of the virus. Everyone shifted to work from home setups, businesses went online, and messaging applications were downloaded immediately. Consequently, demand for additional electronic gadgets skyrocketed. People upgraded their laptops, purchased new desktops, more tablets, etc., to meet the requirements of the current situation.
This bottlenecked supply chains, as retailers did not prepare for the sudden increase in demand for new requirements. Add the existing projects in their pipelines, and you have the perfect recipe for a global semiconductor disaster.
Bad Luck
Aside from facing COVID-related challenges, some of the biggest foundries in the world were hit by a series of unfortunate events that disrupted their production process even more.
On March 19, an electric overload burned down 600 square meters of the Renesas plant in Naka, one of the most prominent players in the global chip market. It destroyed 23 machines and rendered other areas in the facility temporarily unfit for use.
The plant was running to total capacity again by June, but the damage has been done.
In Taiwan, the worst drought in recent memory threatened to make the chip shortage even worse. Producing chips require tremendous amounts of water, which the drought is making impossible to do. In Texas, winter storms forced some of the country’s only chip plants to stop production.
Still, there are only a handful of big chip manufacturers globally, making the semiconductor industry more vulnerable.

1. Fast recovery diode
Fast recovery diode, FRD for short, is a semiconductor diode with good switching characteristics and short reverse recovery time. It has unidirectional conductivity like ordinary diodes. It is mainly used in electronic circuits of switching power supplies, pulse width modulators, inverters, etc. It is mainly used as high-frequency rectifier diodes, freewheeling diodes or damping diodes.
2. Schottky Barrier diode
The Schottky Barrier diode, abbreviated as SBD, is not made by using the principle of PN junction.
It is a semiconductor made by using metal as the anode and N-type semiconductor as the cathode, using the barrier formed on the contact surface of the two with rectification characteristics. A semiconductor device is
a kind of hot carrier diode.
Schottky diodes are mainly used in circuits as rectifier diodes, freewheeling diodes, protection diodes, etc., and are mainly used in low-voltage, high-current circuits, such as switching power supplies, Frequency converter, inverter, microwave communication.
3. Features of fast recovery diodes and Schottky Barrier diode
a. The reverse recovery time of fast recovery diodes is several hundred nanoseconds, while Schottky Barrier diode are faster than it, even several nanoseconds;
b. The reverse breakdown voltage of fast recovery diodes is high, generally higher than 200V, or even several thousand volts, while the reverse breakdown voltage of Schottky Barrier diodes is very low, generally below 100V, and some will be higher;
c. The power consumption of fast recovery diodes is relatively large, while Schottky Barrier diodes have short reverse recovery time, low loss and low noise.
