Different types of diodes have different parameters.We must understand the following main parameters:

1. Rated Forward Current

Rated forward current diode means T for long-term continuous permissible maximum forward current through. Because the current through the heating tubes will die, the temperature rises, the temperature exceeds the allowable limit (silicon tube of about 1 40 , germanium tube is about 90 ), the die will cause overheating and damage. Therefore, do not use more than diode forward current diode rated value. For example, the commonly used lN400l type germanium diode forward current rating of  lA.

2. Maximum Surge Current

The maximum inrush current is allowed to flow through the excess forward current. It is not a normal current, but the current moment, this value is typically about 20 times the rated forward operating current.

3. Maximum Reverse Voltage

Applied reverse voltage across the diode high music to a certain value, the tube will breakdown, loss of unidirectional conductivity. To ensure safely use, it provides maximum reverse voltage. 
For example, lN400l diode reverse voltage reverse voltage 50V, lN4007 for l000V.
